Thou Shall Not Covet

Needless to say, reality has sunk in hard since my last post featuring the Rolex Pearlmaster.  I am in the middle of reviewing for 4 (1,2,3,4) Mid Term Exams happening on Monday and Tuesday, so I went for a little retail therapy.

     No, I did not buy a $19,000 watch.  But I was not able to resist this Anya Hindmarch bag for less than $50.00!  I still remember when this hip British designer brought the infamous cotton flour sack bags with a logo, "I am not a plastic bag" into Hong Kong.  They were going for $30.00 (we're talking American dollars) and hundreds queued up at their store.  After all, it was such a bargain considering her designs retail anywhere from $450 to something a bit less than a Rolex watch =)

     Target ("tar-jay" for those Americans in the know) launched the Anya Hindmarch Limited Collection this month. I finally managed to get to the store for errands of the chocolates-and-candies-kind. Wola, a few of the bags were there.  After my eyes recovered from the shine of the patent nylon, I settled on this photogenic and practical satchel. $44.99! What a steal.  I have to confess, though, that I did not expect to get the bag so easily.  No long lines, no haggling, no hustling.  It did not feel like I was getting such a good deal without the "coveting" drama that it would have accompanied elsewhere. Doesn't that sound so bad? It does. And it is.

     

     Anyway, when they bag it in one of those plastic grocery bags at the counter, I got over the feeling, and just resolved to enjoy my purchase. I am sure it would look good in dark clothes for the winter.  All I need now is colder weather in Southern California. That may be an item for next season, it is still 30C here!
