The Nap

The world wide web has much to say about taking a nap.  Virtually every medical association of some sort has made a comment or a study on the benefits of a nap.  All that I have read seem to have made a complicated thing out of it, giving out exact scientific definition, medicinal benefits, psychological effects, etc.  And even as the "For Dummies" franchise has resisted the temptation, it seems like the Boston Globe was compelled to write a guide, "How to Nap."  I remain unconvinced.

After giving up my job, then enrolling in school, and better yet, being on vacation from school over the last couple of weeks, I have become - shall we say- gotten re-acquainted with this wonderful coveted thing called "the nap."

I remember being "forced" to take a nap as a child.  I thought it was a nuisance, an unwanted break from watching tv or from playing.  But as the years go by, I have matured and taken a different perspective ;-) Oh what a great thing it is to break the day with a precious nap.  To take a break, lie down, close your eyes, relax, re-charge.  When you open your eyes - after fifteen minutes or two hours - the world is a different place.

Truly, it is the most uncomplicated thing. Do not let those medical associations fool you. It is one of life's simple pleasures. It is pure and beautiful.  Something we have all  been doing since the day we were born.

So what have I been doing over the last few weeks?  I am going back to my original calling.  Where it all started.  Something I have been born to do but got distracted by this thing called Life.  Yes, my dear adult friends ...  I have been taking naps.  (Lots of it.)

Next week, the Fall semester starts, and  I fear that the goal of attaining a Master's Degree will get in the way of my summer occupation.  I will miss my daily afternoon nap. I am enrolled in a few classes this semester, and if all goes well then my distinguished professors will not find me slumped in the classroom taking a nap (like the first picture above).

Wish me luck...

P.S.  Timmery just informed me that school starts Wednesday and not Monday.  Woo-hoo-hoo!  Three more afternoon naps!  It is practically a new life.

I'm just so glad you didn't appear in the classroom in the morning wondering where all the other students were for our Old Testament Survey class :)
Keep up the napping!

Right after I moved to Spain, I started taking daily naps-it scared me initially how much time I could spend sleeping, but it was great! Now that I'm working again, I miss my naps. :-)
