My class this morning started with the question, "Where were you when the earthquake hit?". Happy to report to my teacher, especially being this close to Final Exams, that I was working on my Greek workbook ;-) Geek! The rest of the class had more interesting things to say---
"I was asleep"
"I was driving on the freeway"
"I was having lunch with a Structural Engineer who comforted me that it will be okay as the restaurant building is post-1961"
"I was minding my own business"
It was no where near catastrophe but it lasted a few seconds beyond my comfort zone. I felt rolling sound under our house and then everything shook. A Japanese wooden doll fell off my bookcase and I held our flat screen tv steady. My sister-in-law was trying to put my toddler nephew to sleep. If you know him, you know that not even an earthquake will scare him to take a nap, he does not like down time from playing. If you know him, you know that he can do much bigger mess and damage than this 5.4 on the Scale.
We watched the news for a bit to see more interesting answer to "Where were you when the earthquake hit?". An earthquake expert from CalTech was holding a press conference with much competence and confidence. Such a specific area to be an expert in, it happens rarely and if it were any greater than what we had, such a press conference may not be in order. Yes, this was her chance to shine and she treated it like a debut performance nominated to the Oscars on the red carpet.
A few aftershocks more and then I went back to translating the Greek New Testament. No need to rush to "eskatos" (Greek font not loaded on Google) just yet...
