Because I just had a mid-term exam, I think it is only fair that I give you one.WHAT DOES THIS PICTURE REPRESENT?
(a) "Life After Backstreet Boys" (or is it Milli Vanilli?)
(b) "All of My Earthly Possessions"
(c) "The Beverly Hillbillies - Returns"
(d) All of the above
(e) None of the above The answer, of course, is (b) "All of my Earthly Possessions." You are looking at the team of movers (hurrying up for their tee time ... ehem, that is California for you!) unloading and unpacking all my "stuff" from Hong Kong, junk and all.
We moved in this Friday into a rental house in one of the Top 10 zip codes in the United States in terms of safety, the sanguine 90638. No tv series bearing the same name but assuredly a step up from renting a room and sharing a bed with my sister.
We spent the last three days unpacking (in a literal sense, not the favorite verb amongst preachers explaining a passage from the Bible). There is a lot to be said for opening those boxes and sorting through memories. It is like instant home in a box.
But if there is anything that the last three months of living off a suitcase and trying to get set up in a new city has taught me, it is that "home" is not a place. It is not even here.
Hope you get to visit!
