I have just moved to the US with some moderate interest in American sports. I know enough to know that football is not soccer, that you need some basic arithmetic involving non-metric distances and that Superbowl is huge! (At least I was not like my sister who asked "so, is this the last day of football?" like it is some dreadful deadline.) On February 3, 2008, I joined millions of Americans and propped myself in front of a wide screen tv (which they adored as much as football itself) and watched in awe. The thrilling football championship game was between the New York Giants and the "un-defeated" New England Patriots. Because I love underdogs (12-1 odds against the Giants on this game), I rooted for New York and the over-scrutinize 27-year old quarterback Eli Manning.
The New York Giants captured the Superbowl by scoring a touchdown from 83 yards in 12 plays and less than two minutes. This one is definitely for the DVD and so I will let you see for yourself. My favorite moment of the game, however, despite the many replays you are going to see on ESPN, is to see how happy Peyton Manning (last year's Superbowl MVP) was to see his "little" brother win. I am surrounded by my younger siblings here in the US, and each time I see them step out and be the better person they strive to be, I am most gratified... Not exactly something you will see in a well-lit stadium, but certainly a sentiment worth noting.
So here's one for Sibling Superbowl, and other American greats ...
