Monday was the first day of school since, errr... 1991. Inquiring minds want to know if it has changed much in 17 years, especially my contemporaries who were last seen on campus in their torn faded jeans, white tshirt and Dragonfly badminton shoes with Trapper Keepers on tow.
With my God-given "University-Look" (18-28 years old) and my bona fide ID (who's Maria Guevarra !#@?), I disappeared in the crowd and investigated.
They have not changed...
... the dress code, but you wear Uggs instead of badminton shoes
... the roll calls that begs the coolest response you can make in your three seconds of fame (ooops, too late!)
... those school desks which are still too high for my feet to be on the ground (literally, of course)
... the mandatory bored look when the professor confess to having taught only two classes previously
... cafeteria filled with brain food like pizza, chicken pot pie and burgers
What you did not know...
... is that the university is brimmed with Korean students that one of the professors I talked to referred to it as "West Korea"
... is that due to digital photography, it is now conventional for professors to start the class with pictures of their grand children
... is that I can actually sit through 3 hours of lecture and not fidget or belch (well, maybe a little)
